Cedric "The Entertainer" began his career in comedy by competing in the "Johnny Walker National Comedy Contest" in Chicago. That outstanding performance led to other weekly performances in comedy clubs. Later Cedric took First Place in "The Miller Genuine Draft Comedy Search." His career has continued to gain momentum as he tours across the country, headlining in major concert events.
Cedric's unique style of humor is appealing to a wide variety of
audiences. His fresh, witty material is taken from observations of everyday life. He
specializes in reminiscing about the "good ole'
days." It is the "homemade" brand of humor which has lead to numerous
television appearances, including "Showtime at the Apollo," HBO's "Def
Comedy Jam," "Uptown Comedy Hour" and BET's "ComicView."
In 1994, Cedric received the "Richard Pryor Comic of the Year Award" from Black Entertainment Television, and became host of "ComicView" for the 1994-1995 season. Television audiences have seen Cedric on Sunday nights on the Warner Brothers network.
Like many achievers, Cedric traces his accomplishments to his mother. "Mom came to many of my shows," he laughed. "So that affected a lot of what I said. Even in high school, although I was a funny guy, I couldn't get real loose because my mother taught in the school district. So I couldn't act up too much because I'd get told on immediately."
Voted "most popular" and "most humorous" by his high school classmates, Cedric always loved to perform. When he first started in comedy, he also sang and danced, hence the addition of "The Entertainer" to his name.
"When people leave my shows, I want them leaving feeling like they've been truly entertained," he said. " I want them feeling warm and happy about life. Making people laugh is what it's about."
