Singer Angela Bofill has long been known and loved for her timeless interpretations of love and love's despair through song. More than two decades after she settled into life as a successful recording artist, she continues to make the world her stage. From Japan to the Philippines to the Caribbean to Europe and here in the United States, all those who have witnessed this vocal powerhouse's live performances, featuring her timbales solo, can testify that it is obvious the stage indeed belongs to Angela Bofill.
Angela Bofill's music has literally come full circle from her jazz rooted
sophisticated soul sets for producers Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen and
offers the kind of quality songs and musicianship rarely found in modern
contemporary r&b.
Angela Bofill won acclaim on the Latin jazz circuit as a vocalist prior to moving into traditional jazz and sharing a live stage in concert with such legendary greats as Stan Getz and Benny Goodman.
With a 3 1/2 octave range, Angela has been singing since she was 4 years old – professionally since the age of 15. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, where she was classically trained in opera.
Her initial albums were for GRP, "Angie" in 1978 and "Angel Of The Night" in 1979, both of which showcased her songwriting skills and won her acclaim in the UK with songs such as "I Try."
On "Love In Slow Motion," Angela reunited with Whitney Houston's songwriter/producer Narada Michael Walden for one of the key songs of the album. Narada first worked with Angela in 1981 on her album "Something About You," which featured one of her most fondly remembered songs "Tropical Love." They worked together again on "Too Tough," on which both the title track and "Is This A Dream" were firm favorites with the UK soul fraternity.
In 1984 Angela worked with The System on the album "Let Me Be The One," and Norman Connors on her 1988 album for Capitol "Intuition."
With her strong, distinctive alto, she has carved a niche as an outstanding interpreter of soul ballads. Between 1978 and 1984, Angela Bofill had consistent success on the R&B charts, with six albums making the Top 40 (five of which made the Top 100 on the pop charts as well).
