Authentically Keeping The Legend Alive
Featuring Scherrie Payne, Lynda Laurence and Freddi
Poole
The
Supremes, the world's all-time favorite girl group, gained the accolade
during their reign on the music charts during the 60's and 70's. The
Supremes
had eight individual members during this time and each of the ladies contributed
to the group's recording success of more than twenty million selling singles and
dozens of hit albums.
Scherrie Payne, Lynda Laurence and Freddie Poole make up the
only trio that features two genuine members of The Supremes.
Since reforming in 1985 they have acquired an impressive biography with credited
recordings and polished performances all over the world, playing at venues
including London's Royal Albert Hall for HRH The Princess of Wales and Wembley
Arena appearing alongside a host of other legendary Motown acts that included
The Temptations and The Four Tops.
Recognized
as the only trio of ladies realistically representing The Supremes,
they are acknowledged by Motown Records for their work, recently returning to
the label to put their supreme vocals on a Marvin Gaye retrospective project.
Respected author Sharon Davis of Blues & Soul Magazine recently
noted that Scherrie and Lynda's group are "authentically keeping the legend
alive..."
In 1985 the ladies were approached to reform. Since then, they
have recorded and performed with many of the giants in the music industry,
groups and artists that include Edwin Starr,
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Syreeta,
Kim Weston, The Commodores and
George Benson.
Scherrie
and Lynda's group have released four CDs since leaving Motown: "Supreme
Voices," "Supremely Yours," "Reflections"
and one of their latest "Where Did Our Love Go?". The
music they record and perform today appeals to all ages. They have credibly
covered modern classics such as "Never Can Say Goodbye," "Sweet
Freedom," "Give Me the Night" and "Somewhere
Out There."
Their collaboration with Motown stable-mate Edwin Starr
resulted in their remake of the classic 60's duet "Private Number."
Scherrie and Lynda's group completed the mammoth task of digitally re-recording
more than 20 of The Supremes' classic hits – some of which
featured Scherrie and Lynda on the original Motown versions.
Regular visitors to Europe and Japan, they have played many
countries throughout the world and regularly perform songs in the native
languages as witnessed by their recording of the Spanish song "Suave"
which is featured on their 1994 "Supremely Yours" collection.
